Group Projects Reflection - Christina McCain

This project was honestly not the easiest but not the hardest thing to do. During our civic action project, I learned how small efforts and teamwork can make a big difference in our community. At first I thought the project would just be difficult but as me and my group worked together, I realized how planning, listening, and taking action made it much easier. Our actions, planning and more can help bring awareness about important issues. In this reflection, I will share my experience with the civic action project, what I learned from working with my group and the other groups, and how it changed my understanding.

When we first began to present, group three was the first and their presentation was on family engagement with education and civic programs in the U.S. and globally. In my personal opinion, I felt like their presentation was a very important topic to discuss and learn about. To start Brianna stated how they would talk about education, family culture , and community programs that help shape student success and I instantly thought, "this presentation will be interesting." I liked how each member focused on a different aspect of education and family involvement both in the U.S and globally. Mykell's part about women's education really stood out to my eye because it  showed how, in some families or even culture around the world , men's education is prioritized due to sexism or cultural beliefs. It made me really appreciate the progress that has really been made in a lot of places and notice how much a lot of stuff has changed. The best part was the live interview from Ricardo's mom. His part was on education across the U.S like GPA and test like the SAT, which we all took in high school. His mom is a teacher and it really helped me understand his part or the project better. Overall, their presentation helped me understand how  education and family involvement are connected to both in America and around the world.

The next group to present was group two and I found this presentation also very knowledgeable being that, I didn't know a lot about it. Healthcare matters because it affects every person's quality of life and it doesn't matter the age, background, or status. I can say the quote that Carolina put towards the end could fit the overall message and understanding on the Healthcare and immigration presentation. Brianna and Carolina opened the project with good points. Their introduction gave a clear idea of what the group would discuss including the information to immigrants contributing taxes and still struggling to get the care that's needed. That's so true and so wrong that, its important to know these things and spread awareness. Another thing that caught my eye was Kayling's part on comparing healthcare in the U.S. to other countries. We don't really pay attention to the amount of things that happens to other countries when we are always so focused on our own. She clearly explained and even gave her personal story, which gave the topic a deeper meaning cause she truly felt what the Healthcare system affects felt like. In the end, I think everyone did an amazing job and really dived into each topic discussed.

Group 4 was the most well presented in my opinion, mainly because of the interview that was presented. I loved how trinity interview was seen and her friend was able to answer the questions clearly to us. Their presentation was on Environment and public safety with economy. When Brianna mentioned that it'll conduct a larger question, " How does the United States protect the environment when politics, economics, and science collide?" I started to wonder just that. First I needed to know why it even mattered and Victor presented that very well for his group member Sury. He well explained that our environment affected everything we do and I 100 percent agree. Roger's presentation of his slides made me really interested. I love to hear about how other countries also approach different things and compare them from my country to their country. I came to realize policy and laws are very important to have to help our environment especially for "future generations." They well explained their topic and did what needed to be done to have a successful presentation and I loved everything about it.

Finally, group 1 was the last to present and that was my group. In my opinion everyone in my group did a really good job. Instead of the class leaders doing the introduction, I did the it and I feel as if I well introduced our topic and even included a little background for more understanding throughout the presentation. Our project was on Immigration and its impact on society, including details like our economy and even some other countries. Christopher started off with the push or pull factors, continuing onto Donovan and I loved his explanation on the effects Immigration has to jobs and the economic growth we are supposed to be making better. The best part of our presentation in my opinion was Aidan's part because of how reached his topic is. It was comparing more than one country and as I previously said, learning about countries other than the U.S really helps me gain knowledge and understand topics on a different level. Overall everyone did amazing.

In Conclusion, all four groups did a great job sharing their different topics that actually helped me learn a lot of new things and see these issues from a new perspective. Group one taught me about the affects Immigration has on society and how open that topic should be. Group 2 helped me understand how healthcare and immigration connects to the fairness and equal rights. Group 3 showed me how education and family involvement helps shape the opportunities both in our country and around the world. Lastly, group 4 explained how our economy is with the environment and public safety. Each group was creative, very informative, and meaningful to the way our world is today.
