Group Project 2 Reflection

 November 5, 2025

This civic action project was no walk in the park, but it was also not an insurmountable task. The whole process taught me that even simple projects can make a difference if you work as a team and have some plan of action. I was initially dreading the entire process as I thought it was going to be nerve-racking, but once the group started collaborating, things were relatively easy. Preparation, communication, and taking initiative were keys that I learned. This project, in general, has made me see how group work can help raise awareness and make a change. In this reflective post, I am going to talk about what I learned from the groups with which I had to interact and how it impacted me and my overall understanding of civic action.

Group 3 was the first group to present, and their topic of civic and education involvement at home and abroad. I thought their topic was both interesting and important. Brianna started the presentation by saying that they were going to cover topics on education, family culture, and community programs that helped students succeed, and I could already tell it was going to be an interesting presentation. They all had different aspects of the general topic and made stronger individual points because of that. The thing that I most liked from Mykell’s presentation was that he spoke about women’s education, which is an area where men are still more important than women in certain parts of the world. I had no idea that this was even a thing and was surprised because of a sexist/cultural belief that was continuing in some societies. I also found myself liking Ricardo’s part because he talked about education in the U.S. and also had a live interview with his mother, who is a teacher. I think the inclusion of the personal connection made the information relatable and also helped with better understanding. All in all, I thought their group did an excellent job of covering their topic and its relation at home and abroad.

The second group to present was Group 2, and their topic on healthcare and immigration was very insightful to me. I did not know that obtaining healthcare could be such an ordeal for immigrants, and that part of their discussion was interesting to me. Carolina and Brianna started their presentation by telling the audience what they were going to be talking about, and their voice-overs were crisp and easy to follow. They talked about how immigrants pay taxes but still do not have adequate access to healthcare, and it is so unfair. I felt that point was significant, and their audience got to hear about it and was very eye-opening. Kayling’s part where she explained how U.S. healthcare compared to other countries was also very strong, and her slides caught my attention. She also included a personal story, and to me, that makes it emotional, and the audience could connect with her and the general topic. She reminded me of how we do not think about what goes on outside the U.S. until we focus on the larger issue. In general, I thought the group did a great job and they provided some very important information.

The third group presentation was Group 4, and I thought they had one of the best topics out of all the groups, and I think it is also because they included an interview. Their topic on the environment, public safety, and the economy was one that caught my attention, and the way they tied everything together was spectacular. Brianna opened their presentation by asking, “How does the United States protect the environment when politics, economics, and science collide?” This question was in itself amazing, and it got me thinking about the entire topic. Victor’s part, which explained how our environment impacted every action we took, I was very much on the same page. Roger’s slides also got my attention because he had made some comparisons on how other countries fared in the issue of the environment and their economy. I realized that we needed policies and laws to help protect our environment for the coming generation. I thought their group was strong, and they covered their topic exhaustively.

The last group to present was my group, Group 1, and our topic was on immigration and its effect on the society and economy at home and abroad. I did the introduction to our presentation, and I thought I did a good job setting the tone for the subsequent presentation. Christopher took on the push and pull factors of immigration, and Donovan explained how immigration affected jobs and the economy. I have to say that I loved Aidan’s part because he compared some countries, and I felt it was what I needed to better understand immigration from an international perspective. All in all, I thought the team did an amazing job, and we all brought value to the table.

To sum it all up, the four groups that I interacted with did an excellent job in coming up with topics of discussion that are important and enlightening. They allowed me to see the different perspectives of global and local issues. My group has helped me to understand the effects of immigration on society and the economy at home and abroad. Group 2 has helped me see the relation between healthcare and immigration and the connection to justice and equality. Group 3’s presentation has helped me understand how family and education work together in molding opportunities. Group 4’s discussion was interesting, and I think the way they had it interlinked with the environment, public safety, and the economy made me appreciate how a society functions. I thought each presentation was amazing, creative, and helped me grow and appreciate civic action in the modern world.
